The Associations Incorporation Act 1984 [1] once required that
incorporated associations carry at least 10M public liability insurance.
(I was involved in the incorporation of another association a few years
back.)  Since 2002, this is no longer mandatory [2] *however* this does
not mean an incorporated society cannot be sued, it only means that the
members automatically agree to pay in equal share if the judgement goes
against the incorporated association.  I.e. insurance is still a very
good idea.
