AUUG won't fail - we'd gently euthanize it well before that ;-)
One of the issues the incoming board addressed is how to gracefully
wind AUUG up if that ever needed to be done. The two main
considerations were preserving the 30+ years of history and finding a
suitable organisation to pass on any assets - one consistent with the
aims of AUUG over the years. The John Lions Chair figured prominently
in that discussion.
Hopefully it won't come to that - my personal view is that it plays a
vital role in avoiding a mono-culture within the Open Source and
operating system world. But it's future is surely different than its
past and time will tell how successful we are at making the transition.
