For the info of Members & their Guests :-)

Under a dozen people and firms have donated to the John Lions Chair...
And that includes 5 or 6 people from USA & Japan.
[and Greg Rose is personally responsible for raising the majority of
 donations]

The Chair Appeal was launched at AUUG 2000 (Canberra) - and I was stunned
in ~2003 when I mentioned something about it to the AUUG Exec and was met
with "Huh?".

For all the sentiment, people are exceptionally reluctant to put their
hands in their pockets. AUUG & ACS were both approached and declined.

I applaud the interchange and nice thoughts, but when the rubber hits the
road, individuals have to both give something and persistently petition
their employers or organisations for significant donations.

Something like $4M-$5M is *still* needed to make the Chair permanent - and
with the way it's set up for the speciality to be reviewed every 5 years,
it *will* make a major contribution to Australian IT.

But on current form, I doubt if even the $250,000 will be raised.

Please don't just sit there if you would like more than that to happen -
click on the links & write a cheque!
