[Cook] Progress characters

 From man cook:


         -STar
                 Emit progress indicators once a second.  These progress
                 indicators include

                               +   Reading the cookbook
                               -   Executing a collect function
                               *   Building the dependency graph
                               #   Walking the dependency graph
                               @   Writing fingerprint files.


Since '-' means "executing a collect function", maybe there's a shell 
script or some external command that's getting clogged up?
