INTERNET UPDATE:
Domain Names - The Death of ICANN?
What's around the corner in the world of .au?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
featuring guest speaker Chris Disspain, CEO of .au Domain Administration
Limited (auDA)
Proudly sponsored by Maddocks Lawyers
The system of regulating and managing IP addresses and Internet domain
names is unique in our world of Government regulation. Policies and
regulatory development happens through a `bottom-up, consensus-based'
process administered by ICANN, and not by lawmakers or governments. Is
this coming to an end? Chris Disspain discusses the threats that are
emerging for the ICANN framework.
Chris will also talk about some new developments in the .au space: the
release of prohibited geographic names in com.au and net.au, community
geographic names, and proposed new policies for the registration of
.au domain names.
Speaker profile:
Chris Disspain is the CEO of .au Domain Administration Limited (auDA),
and has overseen the successful introduction of competition into the
.au space. auDA is the not-for-profit operator of Australia's .au
Internet domain names system. He is also the founding chair of the
country code Names Supporting Organisation (ccNSO) of ICANN, the world
co-ordinating body for the Internet domain names system.
