Being unusable does not make something insecure.  I imagine it might even, 
statistically speaking, improve the odds.  However I agree that it's not a 
good look, and worse, in a Schulzian sense it's far from unique.  It pains 
me to admit but AUUG's administration isn't a wonderful advertisement for 
UNIX.
