[Cook] cook 2.22 test failure under Solaris 2.6

Peter,

For your info, I tried your suggestion and still received the
same error with gcc 2.95.  Therefore, I went and installed gcc 3.2.2
to see if that would help.  It didn't.  I still got it to fail
for all optimization settings, including -O0.
