[Cook] unit testing a cook book

Now that I have been using Aegis/Cook for a while I started thinking is there any
way of setting a unit test for the cookbook itself.  I.e. testing that stuff is cooked in the
right order, that functions have no side effects, etc.  Does anyone have any pointers on how
to start down this path beyond the obvious of does it cook the goal completely or not.
