Elections for the AUUG Management committee for next year will take
place on Wednesday, 15 May 2002 by postal vote. In South Australia,
the elections may also take place in writing at the SA Chapter
meeting, which takes place on the same day. Make sure you have your
say! For further details, please read the Election Procedure Document
at http://www.auug.org.au/info/election_procedures.html. Note
particularly the policy statements from the members; these will appear
on the web site as they are submitted.

The nominations for the committee elections this year have been particularly
successful. We have had a total of 14 candidates:

President: Greg Lehey <Greg.Lehey at auug.org.au>
Vice-President: Mark White <mark.white at auug.org.au>
                    Malcolm Caldwell <malcolm.caldwell at ntu.edu.au>
Secretary: David Bullock <dbullock at lisasoft.com>
                    Greg Lehey <Greg.Lehey at auug.org.au>
Treasurer: (no nomination received)
Ordinary members: Sarah Bolderoff <sarah at foursticks.com>
                    David Bullock <dbullock at lisasoft.com>
                    Malcolm Caldwell <malcolm.caldwell at ntu.edu.au>
                    Adrian Close <adrian at close.wattle.id.au>
                    Paul Gearon <gearon at ieee.org>
                    Peter Gray <pdg at uow.edu.au>
                    Simon Horman <horms at verge.net.au>
                    Gordon Hubbard <gordon at customtech.com.au>
                    Greg Lehey <Greg.Lehey at auug.org.au>
                    Stephen Rothwell <sfr at canb.auug.org.au>
                    Andrew Rutherford <andrewr at iagu.net>
                    Emile Tiller <etiller at foursticks.com>
                    Mark White <mark.white at auug.org.au>

Returning officer: David Purdue <David.Purdue at auug.org.au>

Assistant returning officer:
                    David Purdue <David.Purdue at auug.org.au>
                    Greg Lehey <Greg.Lehey at auug.org.au>

According to the AUUG constitution
(http://www.auug.org.au/info/constitution.html, paragraph 21), this
means that we do not need to vote for president, secretary or
returning officer. These officers will be:

President: Greg Lehey <Greg.Lehey at auug.org.au>
Secretary: David Bullock <dbullock at lisasoft.com>
Returning officer: David Purdue <David.Purdue at auug.org.au>

We can't vote for treasurer or assistant returning officer because we
received no nominations for the former, and both nominees for the
latter have been appointed unopposed to another position. This means
that we have to vote for:

Vice-President: Mark White <mark.white at auug.org.au>
                    Malcolm Caldwell <malcolm.caldwell at ntu.edu.au>

Ordinary members: Sarah Bolderoff <sarah at foursticks.com>
                    Malcolm Caldwell <malcolm.caldwell at ntu.edu.au>
                    Adrian Close <adrian at close.wattle.id.au>
                    Paul Gearon <gearon at ieee.org>
                    Peter Gray <pdg at uow.edu.au>
                    Simon Horman <horms at verge.net.au>
                    Gordon Hubbard <gordon at customtech.com.au>
                    Stephen Rothwell <sfr at canb.auug.org.au>
                    Andrew Rutherford <andrewr at iagu.net>
                    Emile Tiller <etiller at foursticks.com>
                    Mark White <mark.white at auug.org.au>

At the first committee meeting next term of office (in August), we'll
nominate one of the ordinary committee members to the position of
Treasurer, and we'll then coopt two additional people to the positions
of Ordinary Committee Member (to replace the one who becomes
Treasurer) and Assistant Returning Officer. These appointments will
be ratified at the AGM.

This is a particularly important time in the history of AUUG. Please
take some time to inform yourselves about the candidates. We look
forward to a large voter turnout. For further details, see
http://www.auug.org.au/election/election-candidates.html. As policy
statements arrive, we'll put them up there.

Greg Lehey
Secretary, AUUG Inc.
